Cooperblack - "Malaysia" - Reality of the sea you cannot swim in, dreams and insect abductions, abstract axis converging in lyrics, exorcising the room's ghost and layers of nothingness yet unfinished...........
The latest CD from Cooperblack is more like a sampler of influences, on the sleeve so to say.
Swim: A song about loving the sea and living in a place that you cannot swim as often as you like. Being based in Darwin, the tropical north most city of Australia, the seas are filled with all kinds of nasties. Crocodiles, stinger (jellyfish), sharks and large cod that could probably eat you if they were hungry enough, or at least have a good nibble!!!..so here is a song about that, as well as the other wishes that bring life to a creative completeness.
Malaysia: This song is a narrative of an experience the lyricist had whilst on a stopover in Malaysia's K.L. He awoke from a day sleep, unable to move, paralyzed, looking directly at a curtain in the hotel room. On this curtain there, gripping on the cloth, was a praying mantis the size of a man. This creature swiveled it's head to look at the the lyricist, whose only escape was to force himself to sleep, hoping the creature would go away.
Some Thing Caught: Written in a donger (portable room in a caravan park), this song is a little escape, and maybe a little attention seeking, whatever it is, is little and cute, subtle and maybe even sexy.
Surrender: A girl, who has the ability to transcend space by flapping her wings, travels past moons and stars but always had this cellophane over her eyes, so nothing she sees is actually the colour it really is. It's also about surrendering the Ego, for then new axis of creativity can be had, thanks to the insightful words of Brain Eno, whom the lyricist and his partner met in the city of Sydney, Australia....inspiring the both!!
Salted: The lyricist's room in an old flat. Something was not quite right in that room. One day a lady with some powers came in and she felt it. She advised the owner of the room to place a bowl of salted water in the corner where the feeling was manifested, so this would take the ill feeling away. The thing existed halfway up the room in the corner, some visitors could feel it to. It levitated, then dissipated.
Incomplete: Harking back to minimalistic composing tools, built around a simple melodic line in a voice, building up on versions of itself, like an arch.
